编者按：印度圣雄甘地和他的一位好朋友之间曾有这样的一段对话。好朋友一天极度悲痛的告诉甘地：“我的儿子被回教徒给杀了。我不知怎么办？” 甘地理解他的痛苦，给了他这个建议“你可以领养一位也是在冲突中失去父亲的回教孩子，教养他长大。”
大朋友项目在印度一直努力于把爱的陪伴带进不同的社会角落，和缓的，轻柔的融合贫富、种姓、宗教、城乡之间的巨大隔阂和排斥。Harsh 和Wajib是第一对印度教的大朋友和伊斯兰教的小朋友的对子，半年多来，他们在卡纳卡度嘎的友情已逐渐的在开出花朵。
First Hindu and Muslim Pair
Among one of the unique matches of Kanak Durga base is the match of Harsh (a Hindu Big friend) with Md. Wajib (a Muslim Little friend).
Since the program aims at bridging the gap of disparity in the society through the strong bond of friendship, this matching of a Muslim little friend with a Hindu big friend was a welcome move. This is the first of its kind match in the program. Anticipating some initial hitches that might come from the community, a lot of support was provided to this pair from the other big friends and also the program team members. This relationship worked out well as with every passing Service Day, both the Big and Little Friend are coming closer to each other. In the longer run we hope to witness a change in the thought process of the society in general leading to bridging of the gap of disparity that prevails.
Harsh hails from an upper middle class family and is pursuing a course in MBA in Delhi. He aspires to take on the challenges in the corporate sector in the years to come but also understands that with a little effort he can develop a lasting friendship with his little one. In contrast, his little friend Md. Wajib’s family hails from a small village in Uttar Pradesh. Wajib was born in Delhi though and is currently studying in a local government school. His father is very open with such kind of a relationship but this was not the case with his mother. She was sceptical of what will happen if they don’t get together but as she trusted Swati, she let son join. She is a keen observant of her son in the house and also the changes that appear in him as an effect of this friendship. She now says, “I want people to know that we are open to friendship; we welcome such a move by Udayan Care and Swati.”
Mohd. Wajib says, “I wait for every 1st and 3rd Saturday to meet my big friend Harsh as we spend some wonderful time together, playing games with other big and little friends, spending independent time together, wherein i share the events of the past 15 days with my big friend.”
